Leaders of the 12-party alliance held a meeting with several like-minded political parties today (27 September) to discuss safeguarding the constitutional process, resisting conspiracies to derail the upcoming election, and ensuring the implementation of the July Charter.

The meeting, held at a city hotel this afternoon, focused on building legal foundations for the July Charter’s implementation, according to a BNP Media Cell press release.

Leaders agreed that, in the interest of national consensus, they would sign a formal pledge for the charter’s execution, even if it required compromises.

Participants proposed that a referendum could be held on the day of the next general election to endorse the July Charter pledge.

They also suggested that the president, under Article 106 of the Constitution, could seek the Supreme Court’s opinion on constitutional orders or reforms required for implementation.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to remain united in carrying out and signing the July Charter for the greater national interest.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Shahadat Hossain Selim, Bangladesh Jatiya Dal Chairman and 12-party alliance coordinator Syed Ehsanul Huda, Gono Odhikar Parishad’s General Secretary Md Rashed Khan were present at the meeting, among others.
