Kolkata: Pregnant migrant worker Sunali Khatun and five others, including two children, who were deported to Bangladesh from Delhi, were granted bail have been reportedly released by Chapai Nawabgunj court and they are likely to be released from jail today.

On June 23, this year, Sunali and five others, including two children, were detained by Delhi Police as “suspected infiltrators.” And then all six were deported to Bangladesh, sources said.

“Pregnant woman Sunali Khatun, Sweaty Biwi, and four others who were illegally deported to Bangladesh were granted bail today. They were released from a Bangladeshi jail this evening. After coming out, Sunali gave credit to our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and AITC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee for standing by her throughout her long battle for justice,” Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam posted in his X Handle.

Islam, who is Chairman of Migrant Workers’ Welfare Board, said that The Supreme Court of India has also ordered the immediate repatriation of Sunali and her son. Acting on the request of Senior Advocate @sanjayuvacha, the Court directed that they be brought back to India for physical verification. The case will be heard again on Wednesday.”

“Now we await their repatriation to India. Once they return, it will be a befitting reply to the anti-Bengali BJP, which illegally deported a bona fide citizen of this country like Sunali Khatun.”

One of the lawyers told ET that the verbal order has been given on humanitarian grounds.

Danish Sekh, Sunali Khatun and their minor son hail from Paikar village under Muraroi police station of Birbhum district in Bengal. Along with Sunali’s family, Sweety, Kurban and Imam were also deported to Bangladesh.

Sunali’s father Bhodu Shek had claimed that Danish and his family have been living in Delhi for more than 20 years. Sunali’s six-year-old daughter is staying in Paikar village for the last six months.
