Says any illegal protest by party will face ‘full power of law’

The Awami League will not be allowed to hold any protests until its leaders face justice for their crimes and the party separates itself from its current leadership and “fascist” idealogy, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said today (29 January).
Taking to Facebook, he wrote, “No country on earth allows a bunch of killers and corrupt gangs to stage a comeback? No country allows a reset without accountability. The Interim Government represents the will of the Bangladeshi people who will react to the protest by the killers.”
He warned that anyone who dared to hold an illegal protest under the AL banner, would face “full power of the law”.
Pointing out that the interim government had not stopped or banned any lawful protest, he wrote, “We believe in freedom of assembly and freedom of association. One report this morning said at least 136 protests took place alone in Dhaka in the past five and a half months. Some of these protests triggered massive traffic congestion. Yet, the IG has never imposed any restrictions on the protests.”
He, however, said video footage of July and August clearly showed that AL party activists took part in the killings of peaceful protesters, including young students and minor children.”
“The party leadership headed by Sheikh Hasina is responsible for the massacres, murders and mayhem during the July mass uprising.”
Earlier yesterday, the AL announced fresh programmes for the month of February, including blockades and a hartal.
