Economic progress satisfactory: Dr Salehuddin

DHAKA, April 19, 2025 (BSS) – Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has said overall progress and achievements of the country’s economy are satisfactory.
“Bangladesh has struggled for more than 53 years, and we’ve faced various challenges at different periods. But, despite all the challenges, we’ve achieved many remarkable progress, which I should say are milestones,” he said.
The Adviser also said, “We’ve already graduated from lower-middle-income country status and are currently on the way to be graduated from the Least Developed Country status to a developing country,”
The Adviser made the remarks while speaking at a programme online titled “Empowering Bangladesh: Pathways to Leadership, Unity, and Growth”, at North South University here today.
The inaugural event brought together national leaders in governance, diplomacy, economic development, and youth empowerment.
Salehuddin said Bangladesh’s progress has been possible due to the efforts of successive governments and the people.
Highlighting the government efforts to address the current economic and political challenges, the adviser said, “Immediately, after taking power, we faced challenges on the political and economic fronts, along with some administrative chaos and law and order situation. We’re working to address these challenges.”
About the much talked about reform measures the Finance Adviser said, it would not be possible to reform all things within a short period of time.
“We’re one kind of transitional government, but we’ll initiate some good reforms in the interest of the people so that we can draw a footprint which the political government can follow,”
The adviser said they are trying to bring reforms during their office for a very brief time. In the long term, the legal reforms and other things will be done by the political government, he noted.
Pointing out the high potentials of the country’s youths the adviser said, their prospects in fact are huge.
“If we provide them with orientation on technology, skills, education and modern techniques, it will definitely bring benefit for Bangladesh,” he added.
