Former British Prime Minister and UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown has praised Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus for his efforts in stabilising the country’s economy amid ongoing recovery challenges.

The two leaders spoke over the phone on Friday, discussing the current economic situation and the urgent need to improve educational opportunities for Rohingya refugee children in Bangladesh’s camps.

Brown highlighted Yunus’s leadership in promoting inclusive growth, while both expressed deep concern over the lack of formal education for more than half a million Rohingya children, warning of the risk of a “lost generation.”

Professor Yunus stressed the government’s commitment to supporting the Rohingya community and ensuring children have access to education.

Gordon Brown also offered to collaborate on expanding education programs within the camps and indicated plans to visit Bangladesh soon to assess the situation.

Their conversation included discussions on the interim government’s reform efforts and the path toward a peaceful democratic transition.
