DHAKA, Sept 03, 2025(BSS) – Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumder today said the development projects should be taken by maintaining the balance of environment at national and local levels.

“We should comply with the rules and regulations on environment in taking and implementing all the projects,” he said while presiding over the 150th meeting of the Central Land Allotment Committee at Land Ministry conference room here.

The adviser said huge agriculture lands are being used for implementing many projects that caused a major threat to the food security of the country.

As per Bangladesh Environment Protection Act-1995, taking the clearance from the Directorate of Environment is a must before implementation of any project, Ali Imam Majumder said, adding before that the concerned authority must have to take an environmental influence analysis (EIA) certificate for preparing the project proposal.

The meeting decided to approve the acquisition of 23 acres of land at Dorga Para Mouza under Parbotipur upazila in Dinajpur district in the next meeting for ‘Power Grid Network Strengthening Project’. It also gave final approval for the acquisition of 116.33 acres of land under seven mouzas of Sirajdikhan and Srinagar upazilas of Munshiganj district for ‘Padma Bridge Rail Link Project’.

The meeting also gave final approval for acquiring 10.68 acres of land at Ataula, Dayamir, Khayerpur Uttar and Raikdara mouzas under Osmaninagar upazila in Sylhet district for “Land acquisition and utility shifting project-support to Dhaka (Kanchpur)-Sylhet Tamabil Highway four lanes and construction of service lanes in both the sides’.

The meeting approved a proposal for acquiring 22.06 acres of land at Baroshala mouza under Sylhet sadar upazila for the project for ‘Construction of four lanes of Kumargaon-Baidyaghat-Airport Road’ to make it national highway.

Among others, Senior Secretary to the Land Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed, Senior Secretary to the Road Transport and Highway Division Md Ehsanul Haque, environment secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, agriculture secretary Emdad Ullah Mizan and rail secretary Md Fahimul Islam, were present at the meeting.
