Former commerce minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Tuesday said the independence of Bangladesh Bank is very important for ensuring sustainable economic recovery.
The standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said their party has planned an economic model to be implemented if they are voted to power in the upcoming general election.
“Without the central bank’s independence, implementation of the economic model that we are thinking will not be possible,” Mr Chowdhury said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion on ‘The Imperative for Central Bank Independence’ hosted by Policy Research Institute (PRI) at a city hotel on Tuesday.
