Bangladesh will no longer be governed at the direction of foreign powers, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said today (13 June).
“To protect independence and democracy, patriotic forces must be victorious in the upcoming election. Bangladesh will no longer run the country at the behest of any foreign master. We ourselves will advance the country with our own strength,” he said.
He made the remarks this morning while addressing a rally of citizens from Satkania and Lohagara upazilas in Chattogram’s Keranihat.
The rally was presided over by the party’s Central Majlish-e-Shura member and Chattogram South Ameer Anwarul Alam Chowdhury.
Among the special guests were Central Executive Council member and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Executive Council member Muhammad Shahjahan, Chattogram Metropolitan Ameer Shahjahan Chowdhury, Professor Ahsan Ullah Bhuiyan, Professor Jafor Sadek, and Central Assistant Secretary of Sramik Kalyan Muhammad Ishaq.
In his speech as the chief guest, Parwar said, “Justice for the fascist government is the demand of time. The way it has killed people—its trial should be held under this government.”
Calling for broad institutional reforms, he said, “Reforms are needed in all sectors of the country. However, reforms must definitely be made in those sectors necessary for elections. Otherwise, another fascist Hasina will be created.”
He mentioned that Jamaat had submitted several reform proposals, including transferring power through elections in remote areas via local government polls, implementing proportional representation (PR) in national elections, and balancing the powers of the president and prime minister.
“There were two existing problems in Bangladesh. First, fascism and authoritarianism were established. Second, Hasina ran the country by being subservient to Delhi. By killing our top leaders, she implemented foreign agendas,” he continued.
He added, “We have obtained an independent territory and a map, but Hasina has shattered the principles of independence, sovereignty, economy, and politics. No opposition party took part in the 2014 election, and voters did not go to the polling stations. Even Ershad did not want to participate. India forcibly sent him to the election.”
The event was conducted by Chattogram South Secretary Maulana Muhammad Badrul Haque.
Other speakers included Chattogram South Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Muhammad Nurullah, Helal Uddin Muhammad Noman, Assistant Secretary Muhammad Zakaria, Advocate Mohammad Naser, Organising Secretary Maulana Nurul Hossain, and various district committee members and local unit leaders.
At the rally, Parwar announced that Shahjahan Chowdhury had been nominated as the party’s candidate for the upcoming national parliamentary election from the Chattogram-15 (Satkania–Lohagara) constituency.
He urged party members to maintain unity, stating, “The organisation must move forward by utilising its rich history, tradition, and extensive experience in obedience. It is not the tradition of this organisation to comment on each other with jealousy and malice on social media. Therefore, I hope that to protect the organisation’s history and tradition, everyone will stop mudslinging and collectively work to implement the organisation’s decision.”
