Bidhan for health insurance to develop public health

DHAKA, Oct 14, 2024 (BSS)- Adviser of the Interim Government on the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Prof Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar today underscored the need for introducing citizens’ health insurance for overall development of public health.

“Introducing ‘Health Insurance’ is necessary for overall development of the health sector”, he told a seminar on the significance of mental health for cancer treatment at Gonoshahthaya Nagar Hospital at Dhanmondi in the capital.

Center for Cancer Care Foundation (CCCF) organized the seminar with its president Roksana Afroz in the chair, said a press release.

Pointing out costly treatment of cancer Dr. Bidhan Ranjan said, “We have health policies in our country but the budgetary allocation for the health sector is much lower than necessary.”

Terming the healthy people as a great resource for the country, the advisor said, mass awareness should be created to increase the allocation for health and education sectors.

The advisor pointed out that stable and healthy mental conditions are key requirements for cancer treatment.

“The need for mental health care is essential in the treatment of cancer,” he said.

CCCF president Roksana Afroz presented the keynote paper of the seminar which was also addressed by Dr. Shubhagata Chowdhury, Dr. Halida Khanum Akhter, Prof. Habibullah Talukder Raskin, Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, Dr. Farhad, Dr. Selina Binte Shaheed, Dr. Saiduzzaman Apu, Dr. Faisal, medical Students and CCCF General Secretary Jahan-e-Gulshan Shapala.
