National Citizen Party Chief Organiser Nasiruddin Patwary has said that the BNP no longer has the option to say ‘no’, as it has already agreed in principle to the July Charter.
“BNP has issued a ‘no’ online, but in reality, they have already said ‘yes’. They have consented to the marriage and even signed the contract. Now they have no option to back out,” he said. “The BNP should have thought carefully before signing the July Charter.”
He made the remarks today (30 October) at a discussion titled ‘The Current and Future Roadmap of Politics’, organised by Nagorik Oikya at the Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity.
Commenting on Jamaat-e-Islami, Patwary said, “By bringing the proportional majority of the Upper House into the Lower House, you have ruined the entire process. In some cases, your double standards — saying one thing publicly and believing another privately — are becoming clear to the nation.”
On the implementation of the July Charter, he said, “Since Yunus is an international player, it is often said that foreign players tend to slip on the Bangladeshi pitch — because it is quite slippery. But in this slippery field, our legal adviser Asif Nazrul applies extra oil. The draft he has prepared to make politicians slip must be made public, as we do not trust him.”
Patwary added, “If he does not disclose the draft recommendations, he might act with dishonest intent. That’s why we are saying — publish it first. If we find the recommendations acceptable, we will sign it.”
