In response to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus’s announcement that the national election will be held in April 2026, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has raised concerns about the decision, questioning how such a timeline could be set while “bypassing the demands of 90% of political parties”.

“It is being claimed that all decisions are being made based on consensus. But if 90% of political parties have called for the election to be held by December, where is the consensus in bypassing their demand?” Khasru told Prothom Alo.

The BNP leader also expressed concern that the interim government’s decision may appear influenced by specific groups.

“If such influence exists, then the commitment to a free and impartial election will inevitably come into question,” he added.
