As 2025, year of the snake in the Chinese zodiac is approaching, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka jointly hosted the “Happy Chinese New Year Festival” Temple Fair.
Gulshan Society Lake Park in Dhaka was beautifully decorated with lights and took on a festive atmosphere on the occasion.
The event is co-organized by the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh. Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen; Cultural Adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh Mostofa Sarwar Farooki; Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, BNP Standing Committee Member; and thousands of guests from all walks of life in Bangladesh, including politics, economy, culture, and media, gathered at the park to celebrate the Spring Festival and share Chinese culture with Chinese companies, and teachers and students of Confucius institutes/classrooms in Bangladesh.
Ambassador Yao Wen exchanged New Year greetings with people from all sectors.
“We gather at the ‘Happy Chinese New Year Festival’ Temple Fair to celebrate the most significant traditional festival of Chinese culture and kick off the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh and the ‘China-Bangladesh Year of People-to-People Exchanges,’” said the ambassador.

In the past half century, China and Bangladesh have supported each other, treated each other with sincerity, and carried out fruitful cooperation in various fields, writing an impressive chapter of friendship.
Looking to the future, the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership will surely deepen steadily and reach a higher level with the joint efforts of all sectors of the two countries, he hoped.
Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki expressed his love for Chinese Spring Festival culture and wished all Chinese citizens in Bangladesh a happy new year.
He highly commended China for its firm support for Bangladesh’s development, and hoped that the two countries would take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the “China-Bangladesh Year of People-to-People Exchanges” as an opportunity to further deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and open a new chapter in China-Bangladesh relations.
This temple fair is the first event of a series of activities under the theme of “Happy Chinese New Year Festival” in Dhaka in 2025.
The Chinese and Bangladeshi guests not only enjoyed the wonderful performances of dragon and lion dances, martial arts, instrumental music, and traditional Chinese dances performed by teachers and students of the Confucius Institute, but also visited the Spring Festival cultural exhibition booths and New Year goods markets with great interest, wrote Spring Festival couplets, cut window decorations, tasted delicious food, and made dumplings on the spot, experiencing the rich and colorful Chinese culture and feeling the vitality of China-Bangladesh cooperation.
