National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain today (9 November) warned that without necessary reforms, confusion may arise regarding the government’s exit process and the upcoming national elections.

“The government had given political parties a week to hold discussions among themselves. That time is about to expire, but we have seen no progress. It seems the government is forgetting its duty to implement reforms and is instead focusing only on holding elections and relieving itself of responsibility,” Akhtar said.

The NCP leader was addressing a discussion organised by the pro-NCP association National Lawyers Alliance (NLA) at the Supreme Court Bar Auditorium.

Akhtar cautioned that if obstacles continue to block reform efforts, it will be unclear “what the government’s exit point will be and how the next election will take place.”

Referring to political reactions surrounding the July Charter, he said, “Those who once claimed that the NCP would vanish from politics for not signing the July Charter are now saying the Consensus Commission ‘played foul and scored a goal by hand’. But that should not have happened.”
