Denmark has expressed its willingness to extend support to the people who were tortured in the recent violence by the ousted government of Awami League.

Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller expressed keenness as he met foreign adviser Md Touhid Hossain at the foreign ministry here Monday.

During the meeting, the envoy said the Danish government is also keen to extend assistance to Bangladesh’s interim government for good governance, democracy, human rights and institutional capacity building, BSS reports.

The Ambassador congratulated the Foreign Affairs Adviser on his new assignment and handed over the original congratulatory message from the Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

The envoy shared Denmark’s priorities of engagement with Bangladesh, particularly in green transition, and updated the foreign adviser on the two priority projects of Denmark – construction and operation of Laldia Container Terminal in Chattogram by APM Terminals and production of 500 MW of offshore wind energy.

The foreign adviser highlighted that Bangladesh highly values and attaches great importance to its longstanding relations with Denmark.

Hossain particularly referred to the aspirations of the youths that necessitate undertaking essential reforms in many sectors, including the political and electoral system, and the economy.

The adviser also underlined the priorities of the interim government, including restoring law and order and reforms in statecraft.

Hossain welcomed the increasing interest of Danish companies for business in and investment in Bangladesh.

Both sides also expressed the desire to engage more in multilateral fora leveraging the Danish non-permanent membership of the UNSC for 2025-2026.
