A new political party named “Bangladesh A-Am Janata Party” (BAJP) has been launched under the leadership of Mohammad Rafiqul Amin, managing director of Destiny Group.
The party was formally introduced at an event held at a hotel in Dhaka’s Banani today.
Rafiqul Amin, convener of the newly formed party, read out its declaration and unveiled a nine-point programme. He said the party aims to establish a discrimination-free society, ensure social justice and good governance, and politically engage the masses.
Fatema Tasnim, who recently resigned from Gono Odhikar Parishad, has been named the party’s member secretary. The BAJP also announced a 297-member central committee.
“The fundamental principles of BAJP include upholding the spirit of the Liberation War and the 2024 mass uprising, strengthening national defence, ensuring the rule of law, promoting education for all, and building a corruption-free and inclusive society,” said Rafiqul.
He added that the party would focus on gender equality, empowerment of women, and special attention to the rights of religious minorities and marginalised communities.
The BAJP also pledged to implement rural development plans to meet basic needs such as food, housing, healthcare, and education, while also committing to an independent judiciary, free from executive influence.
The party’s slogan roughly translates to, “The A-Am people will march where there is education, equality, and justice.”
Among those present at the event were Azam Khan, member secretary of Bangladesh Janatar Dal; Colonel (Retd) Didarul Alam, vice-chairman of AB Party; and Ilias Kanchan, founding chairman of Nirapad Sarak Chai.
