US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, along with members of a high-level US delegation, will arrive in Dhaka on Saturday, September 14, following visits from Washington and Delhi. Lu will lead the delegation in a series of meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the United States and Bangladesh.

During his visit, Donald Lu will participate in joint meetings involving various US organizations and Bangladesh’s interim government. These discussions will focus on advancing economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations. Lu is expected to meet with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain, Finance and Trade Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed, and Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin.

Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin will host a luncheon attended by representatives from key ministries. Speaking to the media, Uddin mentioned that a wide range of issues will be addressed during the meetings, with discussions extending beyond a single topic.

A spokesperson from the US State Department highlighted that the talks would explore how the US can support Bangladesh’s economic growth, financial stability, and development priorities. The delegation’s discussions will also emphasize the US’s commitment to fostering economic growth and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.

The US delegation includes representatives from the Department of the Treasury, USAID, and the Office of the US Trade Representative. Their visit will focus on reviewing the progress of bilateral relations in light of Bangladesh’s evolving political situation. Donald Lu is scheduled to depart Dhaka on Monday, September 16.
