Jamaat-e-Islami central Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has criticised the recently announced election roadmap, calling it a blueprint to sabotage a free and fair election.

“For a credible and free election, certain issues must be resolved, including giving legal backing to the July Charter and holding the election based on it. Announcing the roadmap without addressing these matters is a blueprint to sabotage a fair election,” he said at an electoral meeting in Cumilla’s Chauddagram today (29 August).

The Jamaat leader warned that the party will not allow this to happen and will compel the government and the Election Commission (EC) to conduct the election based on the July Charter and the proposed proportional representation (PR) system.

He also criticised the commission for declaring the roadmap without finalising whether to follow the traditional system or the new proposed PR system, calling it a “serious mistake”.

Taher urged the commission to “seek forgiveness” from the people for this action.

Yesterday, the party described the election roadmap as “traditional and somewhat misleading.”
