Fourth Economic census begins in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, Dec 10, 2024 (BSS)- The fourth Bangladesh Economic Census 2024

began here today aimed at gaining a detailed perception about the structural

changes in the country’s economy.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Khandaker Azim Ahmed inaugurated the 17-day

census activities at his office here. The slogan of the economic census is

‘Orthanaitik Shumarite Tathya Din, Natun Bangladesh Binirmane Ongsha Nin’.

To mark the opening ceremony, the divisional and district level officials and

others concerned brought out a rally from the commissioner office premises

highlighting the significance of the census.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Khandaker Azim Ahmed said the census

will provide accurate and updated insights into Bangladesh’s economic

structure and trends, playing a vital role in the country’s overall

development planning.

The main objectives of the economic census are to gain insights into

structural changes in the economy over time, determining structure of non-

farm economic activities.

On completion of the main economic census operations, they would be able to

provide a report at the end of January 2025, Khandaker Azim said.

He informed that some 11,973 enumerators, who have been selected for this

census, will discharge duties in all eight districts in the division for the

economic census purposes.
