In response to the United Nations fact-finding mission’s report, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Ameer Muhibbullah Babunagari and Secretary General Sajedur Rahman have called for banning the Awami League.

In a statement issued today (14 February), they said the UN fact-checking mission’s “extensive investigative report has revealed, with evidence, the heinous crimes against humanity committed by the fascist Hasina and her allies.”

Under ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s planning and directives, her obedient forces crossed all limits of brutality through enforced disappearances, murders, and torture, they said.

The Hefazat leaders further stated that the Awami League must be banned at the state level for its responsibility in the Pilkhana massacre, killings, enforced disappearances, and the massacres of 5 May 2013 and of July-August of 2024.

“Otherwise, Awami fascism will not allow the government and the people of this country to live in peace for even a moment,” they said.

Babunagari and Sajedur also accused the Awami League of continuously orchestrating sabotage to discredit student leadership and the Islamic public.

They alleged that the cultural fascist elements within the Awami League are rising again and working to spread division among the groups supporting mass uprising.

They leaders also alleged that India is still acting like a hostile state and has yet to accept a post-Hasina Bangladesh. Instead, India is providing refuge to Hasina and allowing her to hatch one conspiracy after another. Therefore, the trial of Hasina for enforced disappearances, murders, and massacres should be accelerated.

The Hefazat leaders also demanded that Hasina’s identified loyalists within different forces be swiftly brought to justice. Only then can the July revolution of the students and the masses be safeguarded, they said.
