Jamaat, 7 allied parties plan to join elections on consensus-based approach

Jamaat-e-Islami and seven allied parties have signaled that they will participate in the upcoming national elections on a “consensus basis” approach, following internal discussions and ongoing talks with other anti-fascist groups aimed at forging broader unity. 

“We are staging our movement together, and we have discussed going to the elections on a compromise basis strategy,” Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad said at a press briefing this evening (19 November).

He added that a final, formal announcement would be made following a top-level meeting of the alliance.

Indicating that the coalition may soon widen, the Jamaat leader said discussions are under way to bring additional anti-fascist parties into the fold.

“We want to participate in the elections with all anti-fascist, Islamic, democratic, and patriotic forces. This door remains open to all,” he said.

The coalition has announced fresh programmes centred on their five-point demand, which include holding a referendum on the July National Charter (Reform of Constitution) Implementation Order 2025 before the election.

“Rallies will be held consecutively across seven divisional cities from 30 November to 6 December,” Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Yusuf Ashraf said at the press briefing.

Earlier, the schedule was finalised at the eight-party liaison committee meeting.

Apart from Jamaat, seven other alliance parties are Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Nizam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Bangladesh Development Party and National Democratic Party (NDP).
