Laws will be strictly enforced to stop noise pollution in cities, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said yesterday (16 November).

“We have to fight against noise pollution. Bangladesh ranks number one in the world for noise pollution,” she said at the closing ceremony of the National Nature Festival 2024 held at Dhaka Residential Model College auditorium in the capital.

The advisor also said, “Horns are the number one source of noise pollution. It has become our daily habit. If we can practise not honking from our cars then noise pollution will come under control.”

An awareness programme will be conducted on 10 selected roads of Dhaka from December to January to curb noise pollution, Rizwana said.

“After that, we will start law enforcement. We have already declared the airport area as a silent zone and we have gained some experience from there,” the adviser added.
