Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish chief Maulana Mamunul Haque has urged voters to end decades of corruption and exploitation in the country through the ballot.

Speaking at an election rally of the 11-party alliance held at DIT Project playground in Badda, Dhaka, on Sunday, February 8, Mamunul said that even 54 years after independence, the lives of ordinary people remain largely unchanged.

“Although leadership has changed, exploitation and plunder continue unabated,” he said. “The 11-party alliance has come together to end this corrupt politics. The upcoming election is a continuation of the July Revolution, and there will be no compromise.”

Mamunul emphasised that the alliance is not motivated by the interests of any individual or party but is focused on delivering the rights of Bangladesh’s 180 million citizens to every household.

Reflecting on the aspirations of the 1971 Liberation War, he noted that people had hoped for an egalitarian society, yet inequality and injustice persist.

He criticised current leaders, saying, “While foreign rulers once looted the country, now local leaders are siphoning national wealth abroad. Those who built Begumpara have betrayed the people.”

Referring to the July Revolution, Mamunul highlighted the united struggle of students and citizens that brought down autocratic rule, adding that the sacrifices of martyrs must be honored. “Those who cannot respect these sacrifices cannot be entrusted with the nation’s future,” he said.

Describing the February 12 election as a “ballot revolution,” Mamunul urged voters in Dhaka-11 constituency to cast their votes for Nahid Islam, symbolised by the Shapla Koli, calling it a sacred responsibility.

Presided over by Md Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and candidate of the 11-party alliance, the party spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan spoke here as a special guest.
