March of Jesmima towards environmental protection

DHAKA, April 15, 2025 (BSS) – Everybody wants pollution-free Bangladesh while the role of the youth folk to this end is also important. This is because the youths are very vigorous and conscious part of the society and they can bring about an effective change in the environmental protection. Such kind of self confident and promising young lady is Jesmima Sabatina.
Alongside her academic activities, Jesmima has shown how a young lady can enhance women’s participation and empowerment in the society through leadership quality and awareness activities in environmental protection.
Such kinds of activities can not only ensure environmental protection, but also helps to strengthen the leadership quality role of women in social and economic fronts.
Concerned stakeholders said that environment and its elements are very important for each human being while it’s very much applicable to a country like Bangladesh. The participation of women in environmental protection undoubtedly enhances the empowerment of women in a country like Bangladesh.
Through programmes like cleanliness campaign, tree plantation and waste management, newer women leadership can be built alongside gaining decision making capability.
In a recent interaction, Jesmima highlighted the tales of her strides among the youth folk towards becoming an environmental activist on environmental consciousness and climate.
Jesmima has to travel to and from her Mirpur residence to her university, private university Daffodil International University situated at Ashulia Model Town, but her tiredness could not weaken her firm resolve and commitment. Her work on environment and climate change has already received attention from the concerned authorities since her academic subject is also environment and disaster management.
Jesmima wants to play her role for the welfare of the society and for the country as an environmentalist. After losing her father, the brave lady is now living with her mother and two sisters in the capital’s Mirpur area where she had studied at Monipur School and College and since long had been involved in various extra curriculum activities.
Answering to a query, she said that the issue of pollution free environment had been her center of attraction since childhood for which she has dreamt of building a pollution free Dhaka. To chase her dreams, Jesmima selected environmental science as her academic subject.
In continuation of her extra curriculum activities, Jesmima has been involved in Green Climate Initiative, a climate and environment based organization, as a member of its event management and creative team side by side has been working as a research assistant at the
Global Law Thinkers Society.
Besides, she is also involved in another environmental organization titled Brighters Society as a campaign associate and thus has been creating awareness among people in different remote areas of the country about the adverse impacts of climate change.
She said that they reach people to create awareness among them so that they do not fall into risk of climate change and thus do not commit such things which are hazardous to climate.
As part of this, Jesmima continues to make her strong presence in different environment and climate change related events in Dhaka and other parts of the country. Shedding lights on her experiences, she said. “The youths should have to come over the climate issues in the context of Bangladesh. Otherwise, it won’t be possible to ensure sustainable development in the future,” Jesmima added.
She said that if the youths do not come forward, then the continued environmental pollution and the adverse impacts of climate change would put a negative impact on the future generation. “So, it’s high time to set our work plan, otherwise disasters like drought can be seen,” Jesmima said.
Sharing her experiences while working at the grassroots, Jesmima said that the womenfolk can work more in preventing environmental pollution and creating awareness about climate while the womenfolk are at greater risk of health related issues in the coastal areas due to salinity.
“They can be more inclined to avert such risk. Since I am still learning, I’m continuing to work with people from all walks of life including the esteemed persons of the society over climate issues.
Their valuable suggestions and directives will enhance further my interest in the future,” she said.
Disagreeing with many that carrying out academic activities and benevolent works can not be possible at a time, Jesmima said. “I think it’s not right as a strong will can accomplish everything,” she added.
When asked how often she gets support from her family, Jesmima with a big smile in her face said that her family members give him huge support since she is standing beside people in their needs. “My father would have been much happier if he could have been alive. My
mother and sisters are supporting me in my work,” she added.
Since she is dreaming for an environment friendly, beautiful, safe and green planet, Jesmima is gradually preparing herself to cruise through this struggle.
“I dream for such a country and land where there will be no carbon emission while there will also be no dearth of greenery, people won’t loose their lives due to the adverse impacts of climate change…not only human beings, but also all creatures will live in their own and safe environment,” added Jesmima, the young environmentalist.
