Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority on Sunday inked Transaction Advisory Services Agreement with the Asian Development Bank for setting up Ground Mounted Solar PV (100-200MW) at National Special Economic Zone Project on a Public Private Partnership basis.

A summary was also signed with the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in this regard, said a press release.

BEZA executive chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun presided over the signing ceremony held at BEZA conference room in the city.

ADB country director Hoe Yun Jeong, representatives of the ERD, Power Division, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), and PPP Authority were present in the meeting.

This is an important step towards developing the NSEZ as an environmentally friendly and sustainable ‘Green Economic Zone’. Under this agreement, a project consisting of 100 to 200 MW of solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage system (ESS) will be implemented at Sonagazi Upazila in the Feni part of the NSEZ.

This project will be the first solar power project implemented in Bangladesh, which will be operated under the Public-Private Partnership framework.

This project will be implemented in accordance with the recently published Renewable Energy Policy-2025, which will play a special role in increasing the production of renewable energy in the country.

Ashik Chowdhury said this project is going to be a milestone for BEZA and the Bangladesh government.

He mentioned that this is the country’s first solar project following the PPP framework, which has been initiated to be implemented in the economic zone.

He further said that in order to successfully implement this initiative, in addition to involving ADB, a special committee has been formed for inter-ministerial coordination.

He requested ADB to complete the necessary studies for the speedy implementation of the project and present it to various domestic and foreign investors.

He said that this initiative is a significant step in implementing the ‘Zero Net Carbon Emissions’ announced by the government.

He mentioned that BEZA is trying to pave the way for industrialization and investment expansion while ensuring environmental protection.
