Algerian ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani, at a programme on Saturday expressed his government’s interest in boosting up trade with Bangladesh.
Stating that several trade agreements have already been signed recently between the governments of Algeria and Bangladesh, the ambassador said that his country was interested in boosting up trade relations with Bangladesh.
The ambassador made the comment while addressing a views-exchanging programme as chief guest at Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry at noon.
He said at the programme that dates were produced abundantly in their country and Bangladesh could import these from Algeria at a low cost during the forthcoming holy month of Ramadan.
‘This will also strengthen the economic relations between our two countries,’ the ambassador said, adding that they are providing visa to Bangladeshi businesspersons.
He also urged the businesspeople of Bangladesh, including those in the Sylhet region, to come forward for enhancing trade relations between the two countries.
In his concluding speech, Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s acting president Fayez Hasan Ferdous expressed his gratitude to the government of Algeria and its people for recognising Bangladesh for the first time by an Arabian country after the victory in the War of Independence in 1971.
‘The Algerian importers can import products from Bangladesh at a low cost,’ Fayez Hasan said, adding that Algerian investors also can invest in the tourism, industrial, educational and ICT sectors in Sylhet.
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology’s business administration professor Fazle Elahi Md Faysal presented a keynote paper on the potential investment sectors of Sylhet at the programme.
The event was addressed, among others, by North East University associate professor Shamim Al Aziz Lenin, SCCI director Wahiduzzaman Chowdhury, Fahim Ahmed Chowdhury and Muhammad Mahdi Salehin.
