The National Revolutionary Council has emerged as new political party today (16 December).

Identifying themselves as Muslim nationalists, the group has announced a movement aimed at abolishing fascism and drafting a new constitution.

The party was floated from Dhaka University’s Central Mosque, reads a press release issued by the organisation’s coordinator Hasan Arif.

The National Revolutionary Council claims to be the first political party formed by students involved in the mass uprising. 

The group has vowed to launch a movement to address their demands, threatening a new movement in 2025 if their demands are not met.

The newly formed party brought out a procession from the Central Mosque, led by Ainun Nahar, mother of July revolution martyr Naima Akhtar, and the organisation’s head Mohammad Shafiur Rahman. Hundreds of members participated in the procession.
