In a meeting held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof, paid a courtesy call on Md. Touhid Hossain, Adviser for Foreign Affairs in Bangladesh’s interim government. The discussion focused on enhancing diplomatic, economic, and regional cooperation between the two nations.

High Commissioner Maroof congratulated Hossain on his recent appointment and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with Bangladesh for the mutual benefit of both countries. He highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, proposing the revival of key mechanisms such as Foreign Secretary Level Consultations and the Joint Economic Commission.

Maroof also advocated for easing visa restrictions for Pakistani nationals and called for the resumption of direct flights between the two countries, emphasizing that such measures would bolster trade, economic relations, and people-to-people connections.

Additionally, the High Commissioner expressed Pakistan’s support for rejuvenating the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), underscoring the importance of close cooperation at multilateral forums. Both officials agreed on the need to foster stronger regional cooperation, particularly through revitalizing SAARC for the collective benefit of the region.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Hossain echoed the sentiment, assuring Pakistan of Bangladesh’s cooperation in advancing bilateral relations and regional collaboration.
