BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that vested quarters are attempting to divide the country by using religion.
“We are people of faith, but we do not divide the state or society on the basis of religion,” he said today (7 December) while inaugurating a programme at the Krishibid Institute Bangladesh in the capital’s Farmgate.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to deliver the concluding speech of the seven-day programme titled “BNP’s Plan to Build the Nation.” The event is being presided over by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Fakhrul said, “We must always remember that the 24 July Movement brought significant changes to the mindset of people across Bangladesh, especially the youth. Now everyone wants change – change in all spheres, in governance, in our way of thinking.”
“We want to see a new Bangladesh. This sentiment has emerged among all, driven by the realisation that the old state structure is no longer functional. Our education system is no longer adequate, our judiciary is no longer adequate. The approaches we previously took to development have fallen behind; they no longer work,” he added.
He further said, “The fascist Awami League government has destroyed all institutions in Bangladesh over 15 years of misrule. The need to rebuild these institutions — to rebuild the country itself — is what has inspired our leader, Tarique Rahman.”
“Our youths feel it – they graduate, yet jobs are nowhere to be found. For the past 15 years, getting a job has been almost impossible. Awami League’s misrule has plagued every sector. But how will we address this in a new Bangladesh? He (Tarique Rahman) has said that 10 million jobs will be created in 18 months. Not just jobs, employment will be generated across business, agriculture and labour sectors. And the roadmap for doing so has already been finalised,” Fakhrul said.
“Restoring democracy, restoring voting rights, ensuring media freedom and judicial independence, all of these were initiated by Ziaur Rahman. He also laid the foundation for today’s economic development. He opened the path for overseas employment and remittance inflow,” he added.
