Responding in a comment to a social media post by the government condemning the assault of NCP leader Akhter Hossen at New York’s JFK Airport, Sarjis Alam wrote, “What else can you do apart from issuing statements?”

In a statement last night, the interim government said it expressed its deep regret over the troubling incident that occurred on Monday in New York, in which BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with NCP leaders Akhter Hossen and Tasnim Jara, were subjected to a targeted and politically motivated assault.

NCP’s chief organiser (northern region) Sarjis Alam commented, “Those Awami supporters who verbally abused our sister with obscene language and harassed fellow activists are your responsibility.
