Five political parties, including National Citizen Party, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and Jammat-e-Islami, have agreed to provide support to the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government to hold the national election after finishing necessary reforms.

In light of the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh, five “anti-fascist” political parties held an emergency meeting last night (22 May) at the central office of Islami Andolan in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, according to a press release.

The meeting was convened at the call of Islami Andolan’s Amir Mufti Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim, widely known as Charmonai Pir.

Senior leaders from the National Citizen Party (NCP), Islami Andolan, Gono Adhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, and AB Party attended the meeting.

During the discussions, the leaders unanimously agreed to fully support the formation of the interim government led by Chief Adviser Yunus. They emphasised the need for urgent reforms under his leadership to pave the way for a free, fair, and acceptable national election.

The alliance also called for unity among all anti-fascist forces and warned against any conspiratorial attempts that may threaten the country’s sovereignty, independence, or stability, added the release.

They stressed the importance of collective and strategic efforts to restore peace and stability and to contribute to nation-building in the days ahead.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman also voiced his support for the initiative over a phone call.

Those who attended the meeting included Gono Adhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, Islami Andolan Secretary General Maulana Yunus Ahmed, Presidium Member Maulana Syed Mosaddeq Billah Al Madani, AB Party Secretary General Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Maulana Jalal Uddin Ahmad, NCP Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adib, Professor Ashraf Ali Akon, Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, Ashraful Alam, Maulana Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud, Maulana Imtiaz Alam, Mufti Syed Ishaq Muhammad Abul Khair, Ahmad Abdul Kaiyum, AB Party central leader Mohammad Lokman, NCP Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar, NCP Chief Coordinator Mohammad Saddam Hossain, and Gono Adhikar Parishad senior leader Abu Hanif.
