Environment ministry to demolish illegal structures at Cox’s Bazar beach
DHAKA, 23 Sept, 2025 (BSS)-The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has decided to demolish illegal shops, structures and revoke their licenses along the bank of Cox’s Bazar sea beach.
The Environment Ministry sent a formal letter to the Ministry of Land to take immediate action against these unauthorized structures.
The ministry noted that under the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act 1995, and the Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) Management Rules 2016; no permanent or temporary structures harmful to the environment can be set up within the designated ECA zones, the press release said.
The Department of Environment warned the concerned authorities to strictly follow the rules, stating that no such activities will be permitted in future without prior approval of the Department of Environment (DOE) .
On 19 April 1999, Cox’s Bazar –Teknaf sea beaches were officially declared as Ecologically Critical Area and High Court and the Supreme Court have imposed restrictions too on the construction of establishments along the beach .
