Cucsu elections to be held using OMR system

The ballot papers for the Cucsu, Hall and Hostel Parliament elections will consist of five pages in total. One page will be allocated for the Hall and Hostel Parliament elections, while the remaining four will cover the Central Parliament elections

The Chattogram University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) elections will be conducted using an OMR system, with ballot papers carrying candidates’ names and numbers.

Professor Dr Monir Uddin, Chief Election Commissioner for the Cucsu, Hall and Hostel Parliament elections, told BSS in an exclusive interview around 11am today (11 October) that the polls are being held after 36 years and transparency and fairness will be ensured through the OMR system.

He added that the ballot format will be similar to those used in admission tests and other competitive examinations.

The ballot papers for the Cucsu, Hall and Hostel Parliament elections will consist of five pages in total. One page will be allocated for the Hall and Hostel Parliament elections, while the remaining four will cover the Central Parliament elections.

Each page will display the candidate’s name, ballot number and an empty circle for voters to mark their choice.

A total of 415 candidates are contesting 26 positions in the Cucsu elections. In addition, 493 candidates are vying for 14 hall assembly and 10 hostel assembly seats.

The number of eligible voters stands at 27,516. Voting will take place on 15 October (Wednesday) from 9am to 4pm, with counting to begin immediately afterward in the returning officer’s room.
