The national election must be held in February next year following a referendum in November for the implementation of the July Charter, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar said today (31 October).

Speaking as the chief guest at a ‘Hindu Conference’ organised by Jamaat’s Hindu committee in Dumuria upazila of Khulna, Porwar said, “Since independence, those who have ruled the country have used the Hindu community only to serve their own interests. Now, an Islamic government is necessary for the development and welfare of the Hindu community.”

He further said, “Those who are threatening Hindus seeing the rise of Jamat, will not be able to scare them this time. If anyone tries to obstruct the Hindus, the people will build resistance.”

The secretary general added that for 54 years, those who ruled the country — the goons, occupiers, and extortionists — have used state institutions to exploit the Hindu community.

“If Jamaat can form a government, terrorism, extortion, and land-grabbing will be eradicated,” he said.

The event was conducted by upazila Hindu Committee Secretary Deb Prasad Mondol. Among others who spoke were former vice president of Khulna District Bar Association and Additional GP Advocate Abul Khayer, Shovna union Jamaat President Md Moslem Uddin, Sharafpur Sarbojonin Puja Mandir’s Gosai Sadhu Promoth Gain, Dumuria upazila Hindu Committee Vice President Haridas Mondol, Kanai Lal Karmakar, and Lecturer Prashanta Kumar Mondol.
