Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has formed a two-member committee as part of its initiative to develop a “consensus framework” on the country’s electoral structure, the implementation of the “July Charter”, and the proposal for a national referendum through discussions with political parties.

The decision was made during a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Council, held on yesterday (4 November) afternoon at Jamaat’s central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.

The meeting was chaired by Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman and focused on the current political situation and potential pathways toward dialogue-based resolution.

According to a press release issued today (5 November) and signed by Jamaat’s Central Publicity Department representative, Mujibul Alam, the newly formed committee comprises Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher and Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad.

The party said the committee will engage in discussions with opposition political forces and other relevant parties to explore a constructive and inclusive political settlement.

“Jamaat-e-Islami believes that dialogue is the only way to resolve the prevailing political impasse,” the statement read. “In the national interest, we have taken the initiative to engage in meaningful discussions with all concerned parties to find an acceptable and peaceful solution.”
