INLD national president Abhay Chautala is facing criticism after invoking mass uprisings in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal as a model for political change in India. In his statement, Chautala referred to youth-led protests in neighbouring countries that led to the fall of governments. His remarks triggered strong responses from the ruling BJP, with leaders accusing him of undermining democratic processes. At the same time, opposition voices said public protests reflect genuine grievances related to jobs, education and rising costs. The debate has also brought renewed attention to recent political upheavals in South Asia, including Sri Lanka’s 2022 economic crisis protests, Bangladesh’s 2024 student-led uprising, and Nepal’s 2025 unrest over social media restrictions.
