DHAKA, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS) – A seminar titled “FRC and Economic Governance in Bangladesh” was held today in the capital highlighting the role of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) in strengthening economic governance in the country.

Chairman of the FRC Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan, presented the keynote paper at the seminar held at the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair. Finance Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder and officials from the Finance Division and the FRC attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Adviser praised the FRC’s activities over the past eight months for improving accounting practices, auditing standards, and overall financial discipline in Bangladesh.

He directed both the Finance Division and the FRC to take expeditious steps to implement the Council’s key action plans, said a Finance Ministry press release.

The Adviser outlined several priority areas for immediate action, including the swift recruitment of 57 officers and staff members, issuance of four FRC regulations, and approval and implementation of automation programmes for the Council.

He also instructed the relevant authorities to facilitate FRC’s membership acquisition, renewal, and related support with international standard-setting and professional bodies such as the IFRS Foundation, International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), XBRL International Inc., Asian-Oceanian Standards Setters Group, International Forum of Accounting Standard Setters (IFASS), and the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

In addition, the Finance Adviser emphasized the importance of extending support for knowledge-based training programmes, organizing bilateral meetings, and signing memoranda of understanding with international organizations.

Dr Salehuddin Ahmed further appreciated the initiatives taken by the FRC Chairman regarding the preparation and audit of financial statements of public universities, noting that such measures would enhance transparency and accountability in public sector financial management.
