Env adviser, UN discuss advancing human rights in Bangladesh

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, discussed issues related to crimes and human rights violations committed during the anti-discrimination student movement in Bangladesh with a United Nations delegation today (27 August).

She held a meeting with a delegation led by Rory Mungoven, head of the Asia-Pacific Division of the United Nations Human Rights Organization, at her office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

During the meeting, the delegation and the adviser discussed potential areas of collaboration between the United Nations and the government for ensuring the protection of human rights.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts in environmental conservation and protection of human rights. 

She emphasised Bangladesh’s commitment to protecting human rights in Bangladesh. 

Rory Mungoven commended Bangladesh’s initiatives and reiterated the United Nations’ support in advancing human rights agendas in the region. 

He emphasised continued dialogue and partnership to strengthen the capacity of institutions in addressing these challenges.

Both parties expressed a strong interest in working closely together to uphold human rights in Bangladesh.

Livia Cosenza, Human Rights Officer. Asia Pacific Section; Alexander James Amir El Jundi, Humaqn Rights Officer, OHCHR, Huma Khan, Senior Human Rights Adviser of UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Bangladesh were also present on the occasion.
