Met office forecasts heavy rainfall in five divisions

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today predicted moderately heavy to very heavy falls in five divisions.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is also likely to occur at most places in three divisions, at many places in two divisions and at a few places in another three divisions, said a met release valid for 24 hours from 9am today.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions; at many places over Dhaka and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions,” it said.

Moderately heavy to very heavy falls is likely to occur at some places in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, it also said.

The Depression over Odisha and the adjoining area moved west northwestwards, weakened into a well-marked low over East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining area.

It is likely to weaken gradually and merge with the monsoon axis. The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, center of the well-marked low, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across southern part of Bangladesh.

Monsoons is active in Bangladesh and moderately active in North Bay.

Day and night temperatures may fall by 1-2°C over the country.

Country’s maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded 36.2°C at Rangpur and minimum temperature today was 25.6°C at Kutubdia.

Maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6 am today was recorded 86 millimeters (mm) at Kutubdia.

The sun sets at 06:06pm today and rises at 05:44am tomorrow in the capital.
