India wants to maintain friendship solely with dictator Sheikh Hasina, rather than with the people of Bangladesh, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said today (25 September).

“They [India] do not like the people of Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina is their only choice. They will be able to exert influence in Bangladesh with Hasina in power, allowing India’s dominance to grow in the country,” he said while speaking at a financial aid distribution programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity.

Rizvi stated that one of the advisers of the interim government suggested that emotions should not be involved in the matter of Bangladesh exporting hilsa to India.

“It is difficult to remain unemotional when we hear the Indian home minister’s threats of hanging Bangladeshis at the border upside down,” he added.

Rizvi stated, “If India considers the people of Bangladesh as second-class citizens, our emotions will reach a breaking point. It is the sentiments of the people of Bangladesh that have repeatedly fueled our democratic movements. It was the emotions of the Bangladeshi people that led us to achieve independence in 1971 through a bloody war.”
