The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) is planning to construct 20 special economic zones (SEZs) in 20 years, a recent workshop on ‘Economic Zone Prioritisation and Phasing Offsite Infrastructure Planning and Development Mechanism’ organised by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) was told.

The project will be implemented in three phases: short (0-5 years), medium (5-10 years) and long-term (10-20 years).

The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority is planning to build 20 SEZs in 20 years in three phases, a Bangladesh Investment Development Authority workshop was told.
The project will be implemented in three phases: short (0-5 years), medium (5-10 years) and long-term (10-20 years).
The phases are likely to be segregated into phase 1 (FY25 to FY30), phase 2 (FY31 to FY35) and phase 3 (FY36 to FY46).

The development phases are expected to be segregated into phase 1 (fiscal 2024-25 to FY30), phase 2 (FY31 to FY35) and phase 3 (FY36 to FY46).

“There is no alternative to collaborating with foreign investors to advance a mutual economic agenda. Our industrial development going forward must focus on a few key aspects, such as reducing import dependency for backward linkage, utilizing our trade route access, diversifying the trade basket and expanding production and export of higher value and higher margin products,” executive chairman of BIDA and BEZA Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun was quoted as saying by domestic media reports.

BEZA organised the event to prepare a national master plan for the planned economic zones.
