Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Wednesday said the way Bangladesh’s economy has made a turnaround within six months is just a ‘miracle’.

“I will tell that a miracle, the way economy has rebounded is just a miracle,” he said while addressing Development Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (DJFB) talk held at the NEC auditorium at the Planning Commission.

He said the interim government inherited an economy on the brink of collapse. “The economy was in a fragile state and on the verge of total collapse.”

Despite the challenges the interim government stabilised the economy in just six months, turning it around from its precarious condition,  said the press secretary.

He strongly criticised the Awami League government for spending money in unnecessary projects without knowing how the money will come.

“The energy sector was a total mess for looting, Tax GDP ratio was just 7.3 percent, similar to any failed state,” he said.

The Press Secretary said Bangladesh’s economy was not a extravagant one where money can be spent indiscriminately.

He mentioned the setting up a rail road where only one train operates in the whole day.

“Every Taka has its own value, we can’t spend it unnecessarily,” he said.

He also pointed that the stolen money was siphoned off to developed countries.
