Aramco to supply LNG to Bangladesh at lower prices: Rizwana

Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil giant Aramco has agreed to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bangladesh at cheaper prices, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said today (4 March).

Speaking to reporters after the meeting of the Advisory Council in the capital, she said the government has decided to import LNG from two countries to meet the country’s energy demands, reports UNB.

Rizwana also emphasised that there is no scope for mob justice or moral policing in the country, reaffirming that the interim government remains strict in preventing such incidents.

She said the government does not support any form of violence against women.

Rizwana said the government has decided to recruit 2,000 more physicians through the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, aiming to reach healthcare facilities at the grassroots level, adds BSS.

“A recruitment process is underway to hire 3,493 doctors through the BPSC. In addition, we have decided to hire 2,000 more doctors,” she said.

Rizwana said, “The rural people are deprived of healthcare facilities and that is why the main objective of the government’s decision at today’s meeting is to ensure that healthcare facilities and doctors are available at the rural level.”

About the outcomes of the Advisory Council’s meeting, she said the council made 135 decisions and a periodical review committee found that 92 of these decisions have already been implemented. “The implementation rate is about 68%.”

Rizwana said the Advisory Council decided to change the names of two institutions — Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship Trust and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre.

She said the Advisory Council also decided to determine the rate of saturated fat in food products maintaining the global standard.
