State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad has declared a zero-tolerance policy against corruption in all activities of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), including the tendering process.
Speaking while responding to queries from journalists during a visit to the Faridpur board this afternoon (3 April), he also noted that the government is implementing various initiatives to change the negative public perception that has developed regarding the BWDB in the past.
Forhad emphasised the ministry’s determination to keep the tendering process for the excavation of rivers, canals, and water bodies free from corruption.
He expressed confidence that the plans undertaken by the ministry would be implemented successfully and transparently.
Regarding the operational timeline, the state minister explained that processes related to tendering and river erosion are typically carried out between April and November. The subsequent months are used for scrutinising new projects and making preparations for the following year’s work, he added.
He assured everyone that all these processes would be conducted with complete transparency.
Additionally, addressing the ongoing energy situation, the state minister asserted that there is currently no fuel crisis in the country
He commented that some unscrupulous businessmen are creating an artificial shortage to harass the public.
Forhad further said instructions have already been issued to the relevant authorities to ensure an adequate supply of diesel and petrol for farmers ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
