DHAKA, May 4, 2025 (BSS) – Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed today said that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed satisfaction with the recent improvement of Bangladesh economy.

“ADB said we are very happy in case of Bangladesh’s achievement in economy compared to many other countries. We (ADB) know that you (Bangladesh) are going to graduation from LDCs. We (ADB) are keeping eyes on Bangladesh for its development,” he said.

The adviser said this while talking to reporters after a meeting with ADB Vice President for (South, Central and West Asia) Yingming Yang at the 58th ADB Annual Meeting at Milan, Italy.

Responding to a question, Salehuddin mentioned that the ADB will provide necessary support to Bangladesh for reforms in banking sector and the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The finance adviser, however, the government will give a realistic and manageable budget for the next fiscal 2025-26.

“Our main issues are to reduce expenditure and increase efficiency. We are very much aware to reduce our expenditure. We are also careful to take projects,” he added.

Salehuddin mentioned that ADB will continue its existing infrastructure projects and will also implement the pipeline projects.

“During the meeting, ADB Vice President wanted to know about current situation of the country’s economy. We informed him, our economic situation is now very good. Our all sectors, including banking and NBR, have performed well,” he added.
