Govt working to promote multi-purpose products from bamboo, cane, and wood alternatives: Rizwana

The government is actively working to promote the production of multi-purpose products using bamboo, cane, and sustainable alternatives to wood, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said today (21 June).

“Alongside rubberwood, the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) is undertaking effective initiatives to expand the use of eco-friendly alternative products,” the adviser made these remarks during a visit to the BFIDC Cabinet Manufacturing Plant in the capital’s Mirpur to inspect the proposed site for establishing the showroom, reads apress release.

During the visit, Rizwana, also the water resources adviser, noted that a modern showroom will play a crucial role in marketing high-quality items, which will not only increase government revenue but also encourage the use of environment-friendly goods and enhance public trust in government-produced items.

She emphasised that this initiative aims to make government-produced household wooden products more accessible and attractive to the public.

Highlighting the durability, technical craftsmanship, and efficient use of local resources in BFIDC’s products, the adviser added that these qualities are sufficient to build consumer confidence, stressing the importance of leveraging these strengths to make the state-run forest industry sector more competitive.

During the visit, BFIDC officials presented the production processes, technical capabilities, and proposed site layout to the adviser, while adviser Rizwana instructed them to consult with relevant experts to finalise the location and expedite the implementation of related activities.

Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Farhina Ahmed, BFIDC Chairman Md Nasir Uddin, and other senior officials from the ministry and corporation were present during the visit, the release added.
