Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was present at the event.

Taher warned that no one can come to power through muscle power anymore. A peaceful election must be the only path forward.

He said, “We want a free, fair and participatory election. If anyone again moves towards a voterless election, the consequences will be the same as in the past. The people of the country will not accept any conspiratorial election.

“We want a bicameral parliament in the country– comprising a lower house and an upper house. The upper house should be composed of elected representatives, and no one should be allowed to serve as prime minister more than twice.”

According to Taher, the country is heading in a positive direction, and there is a hopeful aspiration among the public. However, many fundamental reforms from the past have not yet been implemented, which remain major obstacles to change.

He added that no country in the world is free from conspiracies, and Bangladesh must act responsibly in the context of its geopolitical realities. Ensuring freedom of expression for the people is essential.

The event was presided over by central Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal. Other speakers included Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud, Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan (South) Jamaat; Principal Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, Ameer of Barishal Metropolitan Jamaat; and Professor Abdul Jabbar, Ameer of Barishal District.
