Dhaka seeks regional cooperation to address regional impacts of climate change

Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Md Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday underlined the need for regional cooperation to address the climate challenges, focusing on the negative impacts of climate change in South Asia.

He called for shared and inclusive climate actions by the regional countries facing the effects.

The Ambassador was speaking as the chief guest at the closing event of the first day of “International Climate Camp 2025: Symposium on Climate Change in South Asia” held in the Tribhuvan University Campus, Kathmandu.

Eminent water and climate expert, and former VC of BRAC University Prof. Dr. Ainun Nishat, and Additional Secretary of Economic Relations Division of Bangladesh along with Head of Department of Environmental Science, Registrar of Tribhuvan University, Rector of Tribhuvan University, Representatives from UNDP, WaterAid Nepal, ICIMOD, the Ministry of Environment, and several other key organizations from Bangladesh and Nepal attended the event.
 
Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman highlighted joint collaboration between Bangladesh and Nepal in the areas including exchange of knowledge and research, cooperation in hydro-power and clean energy that contribute to adaptation and mitigation.

He also expressed the readiness of Bangladesh to further collaborate with Nepal and other countries of the region on combating climate change issues and reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to be a partner in global climate leadership.
 
The Ambassador urged the young delegates in the camp to carry forward the spirit of this camp to advocate, campaign and collaborate on the issues and cooperate in implementing shared action plans among countries, communities, and institutions.
 
The Ambassador also handed over the tokens of appreciation among the distinguished panelists, researchers and academicians who have contributed to the insightful discussions.
 
The Climate Camp is taking place in Nepal from July 4-8 where young minds, climate professionals, thinkers and researchers come together to interact, discuss, and suggest policy decisions to implement climate adaptation and mitigation strategies among the regional countries, according to the Bangladesh Embassy in Nepal.

More than 100 participants from Bangladesh and Nepal are participating in the camp in various places in Nepal.
