The Asian University for Women (AUW) is set to organise the first-ever International Conference on Environment and Climate Action (ICECA) in Chattogram.
The conference will be held on 1-2 August at Hotel Agrabad, said a press release.
Organised by AUW’s Environmental Sciences programme and the Green Bangle Movement, the conference is a landmark student-led initiative aimed at fostering global dialogue and action on pressing environmental and climate issues.
ICECA 2025 will bring together over 200 participants, including students, researchers, and environmental professionals from across South Asia, as well as from the United Kingdom and the United States.
The conference will cover a diverse range of topics across five thematic areas: Roots & Revolutions, Wild & Well, Voices for Earth, Planet in Balance, and Green Futures.
These themes will explore subjects such as traditional ecological knowledge, biodiversity, climate justice, community leadership, environmental policy, sustainability, and innovation in green technologies.
The opening ceremony will be attended by Sonia Sultana, director of the Department of Environment (DoE), Chattogram Metropolitan, who will also serve as the chief guest, the release said.
Mosae Selvakumar Paulraj, a member of the ICECA Organising Committee, emphasised the importance of the conference as a platform for informed dialogue and sustained action.
“ICECA 2025 represents a unique opportunity to build cross-border partnerships and promote a more equitable and environmentally resilient future,” he said.
Carrying the theme Ami: I for a Greener World,” the conference seeks to inspire individual responsibility and collective commitment toward environmental protection and climate resilience.
Throughout the two-day event, attendees will engage in keynote addresses, expert panel discussions, and both oral and poster presentation sessions.
These activities aim to deepen understanding and spark collaborative solutions to the environmental challenges facing the world today.
The second day of the conference will include a field trip designed to connect theory with practice. Participants will visit ecological sites, environmentally responsible industries, and community-based organizations to observe local sustainability practices and coastal conservation efforts firsthand.
