He said, “Announcing the roadmap before declaring the implementation of the ‘July Charter’ is tantamount to breaking promises. The preparation for the election is linked to the way the charter will be implemented.”

“We expected the government to announce a roadmap for the July Charter before this election roadmap. This misstep could create future crises for which the government must bear responsibility,” Ariful added.

Announcing the party’s programmes, NCP Joint Member Secretary Arif Sohel said, “From 29 August to 1 September, preliminary courtyard meetings on the constitution will be held in 27 upazilas across different districts.

“Our goal is to expand this initiative to 450 upazilas nationwide, demanding a new Constituent Assembly, a new constitution, and justice.”

Sohel further stressed that the only way to implement the July Charter is by establishing a strong legal foundation.

“To avoid ending up like the proposals of the three alliances, we want this charter implemented through a new constitution framed by a Constituent Assembly,” he said.

Among others, NCP’s Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah, Joint Member Secretaries Zainal Abedin Shishir, and Mushfiq Us Salehin were present at the press conference.

Meanwhile, BNP welcomes the election roadmap.

In a statement posted on BNP media cell’s Facebook page, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin called the development “positive” and said the timing was right.

“We expect that the national elections will be held in accordance with this roadmap,” he said.
