Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Abdul Momen has urged all political parties not to nominate individuals with a record of corruption for the upcoming elections.

“The fight against corruption becomes difficult when political parties nominate corrupt individuals,” Dr Momen said while addressing a workshop titled “Role of Media in Preventing Corruption” organised by the ACC this morning (14 October).

“Corruption has become difficult to prevent because political parties nominate corrupt individuals, and if the parties remain cautious in this regard, it will be possible to eradicate corruption from the country,” he added.

Responding to a question from reporters, the ACC chairman said that former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, like all other offenders, will face justice.

“If the court is more lenient in terms of process, the trial can be expedited,” he said.

Dr Momen further said that discussions have already been held with Interpol and other relevant agencies to bring Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.

“We are hopeful that she will be brought back soon,” he added.
